The paralegal studies at Armstrong Atlantic State University's
Professional and Continuing Education program graduated a special
student last month.
Anne Marie Costrini, 92, of Savannah was one of the nine graduates of the program during ceremonies Dec. 17.
The strength of her personality matched her perseverance as her family, fellow students and faculty supported her as she achieved this personal goal she had set for herself.
Costrini addressed the attendees at the Recognition Ceremony and stressed the importance of reading in one's life to maintain a sense of youth and curiosity. She also pointed out that part of her motivation for participating in these studies was to serve as an example to other women that they can achieve many goals at any time in their life.
Costrini was a single parent since her twin sons, Drs. Anthony and Nicholas Costrini, were 6 years old. Along with their sister, Costrini relayed that they all would sit around their dinner table at night studying together.
The work ethic that she trained her sons in has paid off as they both are successful physicians in Savannah. She quipped that when she asked her son Anthony one time what he thought was the greatest gift he'd received, he replied that she had given him the love of reading.
Pat Williams, the program coordinator for the Paralegal Studies, spoke about Mrs. Costrini's own work ethic. She said Mrs. Costrini has never missed a class in five years, her grades were among the highest in the class, and Mrs. Costrini is by far the oldest student to ever been participating in these studies.
When asked what's next for Mrs. Costrini, she replied, "I start pre-law studies on Jan. 11 at AASU."
