I'm here to shatter the belief that "clothes make the man." Clothes don't make or break you! How you feel about yourself makes or breaks you! Your attitude is what is in important.
If you pay $500 for a suit and when you wear it the pants ride up on you, the shirt is to snug and the jacket just feels uncomfortable - what's the point? You have a very important meeting with an investor that will make or break your career. You put your $500 completely uncomfortable suit on to make a good impression. Instead at the meeting you are swishing your butt and legs to unstick the pants, you are tugging at your shirt and jacket because each time you move it rubs you the wrong way. Now you feel uncomfortable and just look foolish! Will you remember what you were planning to say to this investor? Probably not. Your confidence is completely shot. I'm thinking the investor said they'll get back to you and never called.
This same ideal can be held in the reverse. Maybe, it's not a $500 dollar suit that makes you uncomfortable but jeans and T shirts, when your investor is a cowboy and you dressed to impress by style. Let's end this now.
You are probably wondering how you avoid wearing uncomfortable clothes when your office has a dress code, or you have that big important investor meeting. It's simple. Approach dressing with a different attitude. Consider what you feel good in and then figure out how to tweak that for the occasion. Take steps to insure that your outfit fits in with society without making you a misfit.
Each of us has a style we like and feel comfortable in. When you are wearing the clothes that feel good to you, you will accomplish all your goals. It's not the clothes that make you; it's you that makes you!
