The Mob Rules: 2010: Largest Number of Citizens Running for Congress in Years

By Phil

ADVERTISEMENTS

The AP is reporting that there are now more than 2,300 individuals running for 471 House and Senate seats for the 2010 mid-term elections — the most since such tracking was started by the Federal Election Commission in 1975.

Other facts from the article:

  • In 2008, 1,717 individuals ran;
  • In 2006, the number was 1,588
  • In 1992, there were 2,155 candidates

Add to this the fact that Gallup reports that the GOP has leaped to a 49% – 43% historic lead — the largest ever recorded for the Republicans by the polling organization.

Even worse for Obama is the fact that some elected officials are turning down his invites to campaign. And do you remember Mr. Sestak (who toppled Sen. Arlen Specter in the Democrat primary in PA) as well as Mr. Critz (taking over Rep. John Murtha’s 12th District PA seat)? Well, neither one of them will be touching the President with a 50-foot pole.

Oh, yes — Rep. Parker Griffith, the Alabama guy who recently switched from Democrat to Republican? He got trounced in last night’s primary, 33% to 51% by Madison County Commissioner Morris Brooks, Jr.

The Tea is brewing…
