: court-o-rama.orgResolving Conflict in the Ohio AG's Office
By Anne Skove, Esq.
How do you resolve conflict in an office whose head honcho has been tossed out amid scandal? Appoint a mediator.
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has happily astounded us all (even the Enquirer editorial staff) by appointing OSU Moritz College of Law Dean Nancy Rogers as interim attorney general.
We have worked with Dean Rogers before she headed up the law school, and found her to be smart, informed, full of fabulous ideas (which actually get accomplished), and fun to work with.
Before she was Dean, Nancy Hardin Rogers led the law school's ADR efforts with a unique combination of skill and high aspirations. This reminds us that each election cycle, we wonder to ourselves what kind of government official a mediator would make. Conflict-resolution-related questions to ask candidates circulate just as the ads get terrible: how do you handle conflict? How do you foresee working with others? What dispute resolution skills do you bring to the table? Now we have a chance to see how it works.
This is OSU's loss and Ohio's gain. Dean Rogers obviously will be on leave of absence while she takes on this new role.
