Hooray for outside events forcing me to overcome the force of inertia. :) My fiancee, who's graduating from medical school this spring, found out last Thursday that she's matched for her residency at NYU.
Which is awesome because it's a great program.
And also awesome because it gives me a reason why I have to move back to New York.
And also awesome because it means we'll be in the same place again and not all of this flying back and forth that kind of sucks.
And also awesome because I'm getting married in two months minus one day.
Somewhat less awesome that it's harder to make something work as far as television stuff being in New York. But it's all about the material anyway, and I feel like if I write something great, no matter where I am, it'll all figure itself out.
Got my car inspected yesterday so I can return it a couple months early, before the lease comes due. One of my friends got me super-scared about the imaginary damage they can find, every scratch coming up costing hundreds of dollars... but they found $0 worth of "excess damage" and I feel very lucky for it. It's LA's parting gift to me for trying my very best not to contribute to the traffic problem, and attempting to drive as little as I could get away with.
Having been out in LA for most of the past two years, I feel pretty comfortable saying New York is probably a better fit. I will miss the abundance of excellent, authentic, and relatively inexpensive Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Vietnamese and Indian food scattered around the region. I will miss the weather, a little bit. I'll miss the year-round farmers markets. I'll miss a bunch of the people I've met and had a chance to hang out with. I won't miss the traffic. I won't miss being much too far away from a lot of the people I care most about, although at least I've been fortunate to be able to be flexible enough that I've been back and forth more than most people get a chance to be.
