My Life: Spring 2008

By Fannie

ADVERTISEMENTS
Today is Blog for LGBT Families Day. The point of this blogging day is to honor and indicate that not all families fit the one father and one mother model. For many reasons, I don't often blog about my personal life. Yet, many of the topics I write about affect my life as a gay person in some tangible way. Whether it's fundamentalists spreading anti-gay propaganda or authoritarians informing us that non-nuclear families are "pretend" families, there are many people who believe it is their righteous mission to negate the lives of their fellow human beings.

After many interactions and experiences with such people, I believe that many of these negaters don't know actual gay people, or they don't know that they know gay people. Presumptively, and based on the fact that we are gay, these negaters think they know more about me, you, and our morality than they actually do. I don't want such people to accept my loved ones and me merely because it is "tolerant" to do so. I want them to know us as real human beings, and accept us based on the content of our characters. In a civil, respectful society, I think that's only fair.

That being said, lest certain people be mistaken, I have a family. That fact won't change just because some ignorant, bigoted, and/or misinformed people believe that only certain types of families are legitimate. So, what follows is My Life Photobiography from Spring 2008. It represents what is going on in my life as well as the family and community that I am now a part of.

For the only cast of characters whose faces you will see, here is Brown Dog and White Dog. You may remember them from past photobiographies and/or from the Dogs v. Cats series. They are both still happy, healthy, and as weird as usual. Although... sometimes I wonder if they would have rather been brought up by their biological parents. Oh well. I want dogs, dammit!

This next one is not for the squeamish. My "special friend" hammerpants broke her hand during a football game. Yes, she's that gay. Technically, this happened around Halloween. But I had to help her take care of it for many weeks afterward. And by "take care of it" I mean I had to douse it with alcohol and painfully clean the gross crusty pins every day. Fun times. Sometimes I wonder if I had a penis I would have been able to take care of her hand better or shown it more of a loving touch.

Speaking of sports, below is my current sports equipment. Lesbians love sports. It lets them be overly-competitive at things that don't matter. But seriously, lesbian sports leagues lets lesbos meet other lesbos to possibly form "families" with.

This is our herb garden. You've heard me talk about it before. We thought it would be fun to grow and eat our own herbs. And by "we" I mean hammerpants bought the overhang-thingy and I planted the seeds, watered them, and sowed them. (Does that make me the girl?)

Here is one braggy picture of the trip hammerpants and I took to Argentina a few months ago. Aye, what a fun "family" vacation! Or, at least it would have been if hammerpants was a man. Proper and successful family vacations, you see, require complementarity of the sexes.

And finally, as a prelude to the summer, here is our deck. We will be spending much time here. Hammerpants wants everyone to know that she designed and built the deck herself. All I have to say about that is: dyyyyyyyyyyyyke!

I hope you all enjoyed this special "family" edition of My Life Photobiography.
