Celebrex is dangerous?

Since I am/was a follower of VIOXX litigation after working the nations 3rd VIOXX trial, I was not very surprised when I saw the post “Researchers Find Potentially Dangerous Side Effects Of Arthritis Drug Celebrex” by Bob Kraft over at the P.I.S.S.D blog.

During the VIOXX trial there was a lot of talk of Celebrex and the similarities and differences between the two, and why Celebrex was on the market and VIOXX was not. Essentially Celebrex is the same drug as VIOXX as they are both COX-2 inhibitors. Which are actually very effective at reducing pain and inflammation. But unfortunately it is believed to increase the ’stickiness’ of blood platelets - which cause clots, which cause heart attacks. Celebrex on the other hand didn’t play “dodge ball” to hide the known effects of COX-2, and allowed the FDA to put a Black Box warning on their packaging.

So will Celebrex claims take off like VIOXX did? I think there should be enough awareness now, especially after VIOXX, that they shouldn’t.
