The Lingering Effects of Concussions

An interesting article in this months Scientific American explores the lasting effects that concussions have on football players. 

The article cites research confirming that players who sustained three more more concussions were three times as likely to develop clinical depression and players as a group who suffered from concussions were five times more likely to develop mild cognitive impairments and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.

The article has a very informative interview with Kevin Guskiewicz, program director of the Center for Retired Athletes (CSRA) based at the University of North Carolina about the link between head trauma and difficulties suffered by athletes even years later.
