Long Island Federal Concussion Hearing Scheduled for Monday Sept. 13th

By Michael Kaplen

ADVERTISEMENTS

On Monday, September 13th, the Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee, chaired by U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), will hold a field hearing in Long Island, New York to explore how schools and communities can help raise awareness of the risks of concussions and improve concussion management for students.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and will take place at:

Montauk Point Room, 2nd floor of the Babylon Student Center, Suffolk County Community College-Ammerman Campus, Selden, New York

The committee must look at the need to compel school districts to implement concussion awareness programs and to compel these same districts to provide all students with pre season base line neuropsychological examinations and retesting whenever a concussion or a suspected concussion takes place.  These costs need to be covered by medical insurance policies.
