: Structured Settlements 4RealFactoring Is "In The Money" at Society of Settlement Planners?
By John Darer
The Society of Settlement Planners has apparently gone 3 years without a budget and now it has emerged that it is placing the organization's finances in the hands of a factoring industry representative, who it STILL has not admitted publicly is on its Board of Directors. See SSP: Chickens or Cluckers? Countdown Clock)
Earlier this morning the following email was purportedly sent to members of the SSP:

Mid-Year
I like the idea but also
encourage new SSP leadership to get a very early start on the Annual Meeting.
Setting the date and securing the location should be done by about September.
Call for papers should be done about 3 months before the meeting, especially if
Continuing Education credits are sought. I would also encourage any SSP
members who have not yet received or started their RSP designation, to enroll
immediately in the program. I believe if ALL SSP members had their RSP, it
would go a long way toward giving credibility to the SSP. I can also attest
that having completed the RSP program has resulted in a significant jump in my
business as I am much more qualified to discuss topics which previously I had to
defer to others. I believe Joe Tombs can assist interested parties with
enrollment in the RSP program.
The Society of Settlement Planners is encouraged to come clean on the appointment or election of the factoring industry's Rhonda Bentzen to its Board of Directors. The attorneys that its members market to deserve to know that the organization has only one factoring member and that factoring member is on the Board and in charge of its money.
Just last month, according to our source, Bentzen was clobbered on a factoring deal referred by a structured settlement broker by 50%. Her offer would have put potentially $40,000 less in the tort victim's pocket. This author is awaiting information concerning whether that broker was a member of the SSP.
