: Structured Settlements 4RealAfraid of Losing Business Due To Transparency Initiative in Structured Settlement Industry? Why Make Veiled Threats?
By John Darer
It has come to this author's attention that there are one or two structured settlement brokers, settlement planners who have told one of our sources that they will "turn it over to their lawyers" IF they lose any business over the Matter of Honor Project.
Factoring broker Rhonda Bentzen, of Bentzen Funding Solutions, made such a threat last December when this project started. Bentzen of course had just disclosed to the world that 90% of her clientele was on the take and that the majority of her clientele were settlement professionals. Ms. Bentzen followed this nugget up by trying to defend the taking of kickbacks by structured settlement brokers and settlement planners which it has been proven takes money out of tort victim's recovery and she was documented in print as stating that " a price is just a price" (see Now She Says "The Price is Wrong".
It's hard to imagine members of the bar why any structured settlement broker or settlement planner would not be interested in greater transparency. Face it, whether you like it or not the "tall grass" IS being mowed!
Anyone whose sense of bravado includes a strategy to make direct or indirect threats in an attempt to thwart a transparency initiative may wish to consider the power of discovery which would no doubt include production of documents to prove/defend, possibly including emails, books, bank records and oral testimony, under penalty of perjury. HE-LLLLO sports fans!
