Take Time to Reflect

ADVERTISEMENTS
Taking time in busy schedules to pause and reflect can be an antidote for burnout for both students and practitioners. The Reflective Counselor: Daily Meditations for Lawyers by F. Gregory Coffey and Maureen C. Kessler, a new book recently added to the law library collection, can assist.

The book's meditation-a-day format includes quotations followed by brief reflections touching on issues of personal belief, maintaining integrity, overcoming fear, as well as issues in the legal arena. As shown in the following examples, the quotations come from a wide variety of sources:

"Beyond a healthy discipline, be gentle with yourself." Desiderata

"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it." Pablo Picasso

"But to know how to use knowledge is wisdom." Charles H. Spurgeon

"The best things in life are not things." Author Unknown

This book will be in the law library's "New Book" display for several weeks, before being shelved in the regular collection.
