Presidential Sucession

ADVERTISEMENTS
With the election now less than 4 weeks away, there has been speculation of just what would happen if the nominated presidential candidate dies before the election, after the election but before the vote by the electoral college or after the vote but before the certification by Congress of the electoral vote.

For both a history lesson on how presidential succession has changed over the years, (did you know that until 1947, the president pro-tem of the Senate was third in line, not the speaker of the House?) and information about proposed legislation that would again change succession rules, take a look at a very recent Congressional Research Services report, Presidential Succession: Perspectives, Contemporary Analysis, and 110th Congress Proposed Legislation.

Given the age of one of the candidates and the advent of worldwide terrorism, this report makes a very interesting read.
