Happy Mario Day (just in the nick of time) to all the Marios I now know and to all the people who celebrate with them!!

Mario Day has become an interesting lesson in the evolution of a popular idea. As anyone who is familiar with this blog knows, Mario Day was established by a Chicagoan named Mario in the 1970s (I have never found evidence predating this).

However, in the last few years it has become associated with Nintendo's Mario (who didn't exist until 1981). Pop culture and advertising can overshadow fact, unless we dig deeper. Librarians know this. Always dig deeper!
