: New York Supreme Court Criminal Term LibraryGun Control Group: 30,000 Weapons Missing in Dealer Counts
By David Badertscher, PLL
Source: Crime and Justice News, June, 19, 2008.
"More than 30,000 firearms are unaccounted for in gun dealers' inventories nationwide, charges the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. The New York Times reports on a study by the group that says its finding most likely undercounts the missing firearms, because data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are drawn from the inspections that involved 10,000 dealers, one-sixth of the nation's total."
"The center called for increased regulation of gun dealers, including a requirement that they take physical inventory of their firearms to account for each weapon annually. A National Rifle Association spookesman said 'there are plenty of laws on the books that address that issue, and all that needs to be done is those laws need to be enforced.' "
