I think I would have favored the name GovTweet, but GovTwit  - "the Government Twitter Directory ... of 2,217 Twitter users, 60,295 tweets and 20,879,938 followers" - is still a useful site.  The site was started in late 2008 by strategic communications professional Steve Lunceford, and recently upgraded to v2.0.  According to website, GovTwit "is the world?s largest directory of all facets of government on Twitter: state and local, federal, contractors, media, academics, non-profits and government outside of the U.S.  You?ll find official government Twitter IDs as well as individuals from different agencies in the directory."  For those of you who aren't Twitter fans, you can follow the GovTwit blog for weekly highlights (no RSS feed available, however). Be advised: there are "unofficial" portions of the site as well, including photos of tweeters' family members and body parts (G-rated, of course)!
