E-Discovery

By Beverly Burmeister

ADVERTISEMENTS
The Law Library has several books about electronic discovery including a newly added title, Discovery of Electronically Stored Information: Surveying the Legal Landscape by Ronald J. Hedges. According to author, the aspect of law which has been most dramatically altered by the information technology revolution is discovery. A majority of the information in support of a case may now be born digital in e-mail, web pages, word processing files, databases, etc.

However, this new form of evidence is problematic because it is dynamic and can be altered or destroyed, is persistent and can continue to exist after deletion, and is dependent on technology. For a discussion of the differences between electronically stored information and conventional information, the author directs readers to "Electronically Stored Information: The December 2006 Amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure" by K. Withers, 4 Northwestern J.T. & I.P. 171 (2006).

This book will be on the "New Books" display for several weeks and then shelved. To locate other books about e-discovery available in the Law Library, search by keywords "electronic discovery."
