: FSU College of Law Library BlogAlabama's Pick & Choose Judicial Candidates Defeated
By fayejones
"Four Republican candidates for the Alabama Supreme Court who claimed they could pick and choose which U.S. Supreme Court decisions they would follow?and said they were free to defy the rest?were defeated in Tuesday?s primary election.
Led by Alabama Supreme Court Associate Justice Tom Parker,
the slate of candidates also included Ben Hand, Hank Fowler and Alan Zeigler.
Backed by groups like the Conservative Christians of Alabama, the slate endorsed
the notion that a state court judge need not follow Supreme Court precedent if
he or she deems it clearly erroneous." See the article by Geri L. Dreiling in the ABA Journal eReport
