Quick Note: 50% of US college students will buy an ereader
By Paul Biba

“Research company Alloy Media is reporting that only 2% of US college students own an ereading device, but a survey the did showed that 50% of those surveyed intent to buy one within the next year.

More information at The Independent.”

50% of US college students plan to buy an e-reader before autumn term

I’m not sure but this is telling. I think it’s more likely that most students will take the faster and cheaper route and download a free e-reader to their smartphones, netbooks or laptops from Kindle, Nook, Kobo or whatever. Same difference though on terms of readiness to use e-books.

How prepared are academic libraries to address a sudden surge in different devices, apps and standards?
