Hotz Slapped with Temporary Restraining Order in PS3 Jailbreaking Case

By james_fudge

ADVERTISEMENTS

Sony has secured a temporary restraining order against PS3 jailbreaker George "Geohot" Hotz and other "named defendants" late last week, despite the fact that there was a question of jurisdiction because Hotz resides in New Jersey. Apparently the judge put that aside and sided with Sony.

The key term here is "temporary." The judge ordered that all parties meet to set a formal hearing date regarding Sony's motion for an injunction and Hotz's motion to dismiss it based on personal jurisdiction grounds by February 1.

For the time being, all named defendants must stop all activities related to jailbreaking the PS3 such as distributing software or code, advertising said code, and offering advice or details on how to use the leaked security key to jailbreak the system.
