Two lawyers at Korenberg Abramowitz sentenced for visa fraud

By Jason Siegel (index)

A name partner and an attorney at one of the West Coast's largest immigration law firms were sentenced for filing fraudulent employment visa applications for foreign nationals yesterday, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

Daniel Korenberg, the founder of the firm formerly known as Korenberg, Abramowitz & Feldun (KAF), plead guilty to two counts of visa fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud. He was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison, 6 months home detention, three years of supervised release and a fine of $750,000.

Steven Rodriguez, a senior associate at KAF, was sentenced to three years probation, 6 months home detention and 200 hours of community service for making false statements to the U.S. Immigration Naturalization Service.

The attorneys were charged in a 33 count indictment that claimed 19 of the legally foreign immigrants who benefited from the visa fraud scheme were KAF employees.

KAF is now known as ASK Law Group and is based in the San Fernando Valley with offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

KAF name partner Phillip Abramowitz also plead guilty to two counts of visa fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit visa fraud and will be sentenced on March 24. He spoke to the Asian Journal last year about the case (here).
