: Legal Pad | LAWould-be art "collector" will be leaving Las Vegas
By Richard Binder
Authorities today arrested a fugitive living under an alias in Las Vegas, a decade after he allegedly stole close to half a million dollars' worth of art from Laguna Beach galleries, officials said.
Detectives of the Laguna Beach police and Las Vegas Metro Police took Joseph Michael Killebrew into custody at his Las Vegas home, where several of the missing paintings were found hanging on the walls, said Sgt. Jason Kravetz of the Laguna Beach Police Department.
Killebrew is accused of stealing about $500,000 worth of paintings from four galleries and fleeing from his San Diego home to start a new life in Las Vegas under the name Michael Palmer. Prosecutors said they will seek Killebrew's extradition to Orange County to face felony grand theft charges, and he will also likely be charged in Los Angeles County.
