This just in: New York senator Chuck Schumer has recommended Loretta Lynch to become the new U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, replacing Benton Campbell. Click here for the early story from Newsday.
Lynch is no stranger to the job; she held the position during the end of the Clinton Administration, from 1999-2001. Prior to becoming U.S. attorney (the first time), she served as the chief assistant U.S. attorney and chief of the Long Island office of the Eastern District. She is currently a partner at Hogan & Hartson, where she has focused commercial litigation and corporate compliance issues. Lynch, a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law school, is not to be confused with this person.
Before she moves into her digs at Cadman Plaza, Lynch will first have to be nominated by President Obama and approved by the Senate.
