: Legal Pad | LAL.A. Federal judge gets no award for escalator fall

A Los Angeles County Superior Court jury ruled against federal judge George Schiavelli, who sought $21 million for his injuries after an allegedly malfunctioning escalator at a shopping mall.
Schiavelli claimed in August 2005 an escalator suddenly stopped, knocking him down the stairs.
He says his injuries necessitated replacement surgery for both knees and a hip, as well as repairing damaged to his back and neck.
