: Law Blog - WSJ.comGov Agencies, and Cadwalader, Shake Up Ranks
By Dan Slater
We’re a bit wary of launching a Law Blog Page Six, but, with the wealth of lawyer moves in this morning’s news, we couldn’t resist a round-up:
White on Top at Cadwalader: Yesterday, Cadwalader announced that Robert Link, the firm’s top-dog since 1994, is handing the chairman title to Christopher White (pictured). Link will continue to serve as Cadwalader’s managing partner and remain a member of the firm’s six-partner management committee. Greg Markel, head of the firm’s litigation practice, said the move is part of the firm’s foray into a number of relatively new practice areas. Cadwalader raked in profits-per-partner of $2.9 million in 2006, ranking only behind Wachtell and Cravath, and $2.7 million in 2007. But last month it laid off 35 associates in its structured finance practice, and reassigned several more. Tony Lin at NYLJ reported the news last night.
Platt Majoras Goes Private: FTC Chairwoman Deborah Platt Majoras, a former Jones Day antitrust lawyer, will resign next month. William Kovacic — a Republican who’s now serving as one of the FTC commissioners — has been pegged as the White House’s likely choice to succeed her. Majoras, reports the WSJ, is expected to be named vice president and general counsel at Procter & Gamble. Her departure leaves the five-member regulatory panel divided between two Republicans, a Democrat and an independent.
FCC’s GC Phones Jenner: Samuel Feder — a one-time summer associate at Jenner & Block who’s been general counsel for the FCC since 2005 — will return to the firm’s Washington office next week. Before the FCC, Feder was an associate at two Washington-based law firms, Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis and Kellogg, Huber Hansen Todd & Evans.
