: Law Blog - WSJ.comFeds Winnow Charges in Wone Case, Will Not Charge Trio With Murder
By Ashby Jones
Robert Wone was murdered on the night of Aug. 2, 2006. At the time, Wone, 32, had just started a new job as the general counsel for Radio Free Asia. He was also a new father.
Since the murder, which occurred while Wone was visiting friends in a home in Dupont Circle, investigators have made slow progress. Still, judging from comments made during a hearing on Friday, things seem to be moving forward.
One of the prosecutors, Glenn Kirschner, announced on Friday afternoon that his office presently has no plans to charge Joseph Price, Victor J. Zaborsky or Dylan M. Ward with murder. All three men have already been charged with tampering with the crime-scene evidence; all three have pleaded not-guilty.
The government also alleged that the men know who killed Wone and are covering for the killer. The purpose of Friday’s hearing: to winnow the charges the government planned to pursue. A trial on the obstruction charges concerning the three charged defendants is slated to start in May.
