: Legal Pad | LADeath row executions on hold again in CA
By Richard Binder
Marin County Superior Court Judge Verna Adams issued a ruling yesterday that said a 2007 injunction against executions remained in force "unless and until" the court approves newly revised lethal injection procedures.
The ruling was made at a hearing in the cases of Michael Morales and Mitchell Sims, both death row inmates. Morales was set to be executed on October 19. Including Morales and Sims, six California men have exhausted their appeals and await execution. Sims had sued the Department of Corrections earlier in August, claiming the public was deliberately kept out of the loop as the department revised procedures for lethal injection.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered state Attorney General Jerry Brown to appeal Adams' ruling.
