The Human Stain

When most Americans discuss the subject of illegal immigration, they tend to do so with cold, hard, dispassionate logic. I dare say that the issue is one that barely registers on the public emotional seismograph. As far as I'm concerned, however, instead of calmly and rationally analyzing Excel spread sheets that detail cost-benefit comparisons of those who swim the Rio Grande, or pie charts that illustrate the relative percentages of the national budget devoted to public health care costs of undocumented residents as opposed to those of the prematurely obese among the native-born, I think it may be time to bring the right side of the brain into play and to let the tsunami of emotion caused by the realization of the human cost of this plague that infects our populace wash over us. So, grab a brew, slap on the earphones, make sure a full box of facial tissues is close at hand, and prepare to cry in your beer.
