I can't write about it

ADVERTISEMENTS
This has been the worst week ever. I have no doubt I will look back on this week in years to come and tell the stories about how bad this week was. I'm willing to predict that for the rest of my career as an associate, no week will ever compare to this one.

The worst part, I can't write about it. It's all work related and I can't write about it. I could only give you snippets and they wouldn't make much sense. On the other hand, I don't think it would take much to paint the picture of my week.

I was yelled at, called an idiot, "tattled on" by someone I was working for, manipulated by that same someone, forced to sit in a corner and read a book as punishment, humiliated, reprimanded, and just plain broken.

I cried in a stairwell at work, in my office with my door shut, at my apartment and in my car.

The thing is, I work at a great firm. Up until this week, I have not so much as had anyone raise his voice at me. But every good group has a few bad eggs, right? And everyone has bad days and takes their anger out on the person who least deserves it. I got to be on the receiving end of all of that this week. I got to live every associate horror story you read about. And all within a six day period.

You know, after I dry my tears, get back what I have built since starting my career and get my work done, I will move on from this past week. I will take what I learned and I will file it away but never forget it so that I will hopefully never ever treat anyone the way I was treated this week.
