"I wept that night. Did you?"

ADVERTISEMENTS

Ok, I'm in law school, which means I'm not exactly up on my tv shows. I tape them then try to catch up on the weekends. Since I'm skipping my last property class of the semester tonight, I figured I'd catch up on Boston Legal. In the episode I'm watching now, which aired on 11/17, Shirley and Alan were discussing the presidential election. Shirley said to Alan "I wept that night. Did you?"

I actually did. I didn't realize how much hope for this country I had pinned on Barack Obama until CNN announced that they projected him to be the next President of the United States. I got goosebumps, and then the tears started. What an unbelievable moment!

For the first time ever, a candidate could be the ideal that I've had in my mind for a long time. What Robert Kennedy could have been, if he hadn't been assassinated. What the president should be. Watching the crowds react in Chicago and NYC reminded me of what it must have been like in the 60s, when people were passionate about politics because they knew it could make a difference.

What an amazing night.

But the funniest part was the night before, in Con Law. Our professor started class by talking about election, and apologizing because she couldn't keep her mind off of it. Her enthusiasm kept bubbling out of her until finally she said "Big shit's going down tomorrow!"

How could you not love it? :)
