Back from a very successful weekend in Manhattan. There were a few setbacks, I have to say, starting off with horrible traffic and rain that resulted in me getting off the bus 50 minutes after my three-hour Friday training had already started. Not good. And that night, Caro absentmindedly gave me the building number of her workplace combined with the street of her apartment, which resulted in me crossing 1st Avenue four or five times at 10 pm while being chaperoned by a homeless guy named Eddie who was determined to help me find a building that didn't exist.

But it all worked out. Both trainings were really helpful, even if the Saturday one was about 10% over my head. There is some crazy advanced statutory analysis going on in the field of immigration and crimes as people scramble furiously to make sure, for example, that some guy with a statutory rape conviction who did no time, or a simple assault with a suspended sentence that got wiped away later, stays out of a box that gets him deported with a lifetime ban from the U.S. I don't know if I actually dealt with anything this hard in law school.

As a neat bonus, the Saturday training happened in one of the rooms that was used for the immigration moot court my 2L year - in fact, I think it was the room we won our first round in. To go from pretend immigration lawyer to real one in the same room definitely made me smile.

I also got to see Dan's brother for dinner and a movie, which was a lot of fun (Burn After Reading does not exactly make sense, but Brad Pitt is hysterical in it), and Caro and I had a fabulous time drinking wine and talking about relationships and careers and bras. I don't know the last time I did something like that with a non-Dan person. And Dan definitely cannot sustain a conversation about bras for long. And in my absence, Dan and Becca had some good bonding time over park swings and applesauce. So a good time was had by all.
