Our day

ADVERTISEMENTS
Today I got to sleep in while JW got up with K. I was happy to put on my clothes and go to the bathroom in peace.

In the morning I pushed K around the neighborhood in his blue car. We were going to go to the playground, but the weird lady who pushes a shopping cart around the neighborhood was there. Most people with their own shopping cart use it to carry their possessions, but her shopping cart contains a small dog dressed in a variety of clothes. We kept walking.

During K's nap, we cleaned up and I filled out my clearance forms to work in the AG's office in the fall. I used Google Maps to look up my old addresses -- I don't remember the street numbers, but I used Street View to see what the houses looked like.

When K woke up, we went to the park, where he was enthralled by an older girl in a yellow and green dress. I don't think she appreciated her little admirer. She kept ignoring him and moving when he got too close. At first he kept walking up to her and pointing at her, but after a while he learned to point at her from afar.

We came back for lunch, then went grocery shopping at Whole Foods. People call it "whole paycheck" but when you compare the prices, the packaged organic stuff is significantly cheaper at WF than at my local supermarket. Meat and produce is expensive, though. We started shopping there because they have baby food spinach, which my local store doesn't carry.

We tried to get K to take a nap, but he wouldn't.

I was hoping to take a trip to the aquarium or to the Children's Museum, but it was too late. Anyway, whenever I take K somewhere, he's always more interested in something he finds on the ground or in another kid walking by. Instead all three of us went for a walk, in the car again, to the playground at the local elementary school. K struck out with the ladies again, this time arousing the suspicion of a little girl whose Dora bike he kept trying to touch. He kept going down the slide and then running over to the bike. The first time the girl glared at him. The next time she yelled. Then she sat there, crouching, just waiting for him to try it again. I decided it was time to get on the swings.

Back home. I folded an entire load of laundry while K carried the book I was reading around the room, opened it, closed it, held it upside down, found a bookmark in it, riffled through it. Dinner: minestrone soup followed by cherries and watermelon. Diaper change, where JW learned my special diaper song: "Old MacDonald had some poo, E-I-E-I-O. His mommy cleaned up all his poo, E-I-E-I-O. With a poo poo here and a poo poo there," et cetera. We read Babar and K cracked up every time I said "rhinoceroses." Bath time, extra splashy. Dressed K in his tiger PJs and handed him over to JW for bed.

I've only been working for a week but my life seems so fragmented between work and home, like one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. It's strange after being in school all year, where I'd study, hang out with K, go to class, pick him up early, and study some more once he went to bed. This weekend it seemed like I was in a different world.
