Always be my baby

ADVERTISEMENTS
Growing up, it used to drive me crazy when my parents treated me like I was the same person at 15 that I had been at 8. I hated it when they would say to someone, "She loves X," when in fact I didn't like X at all, or when they would tell my teenage self, "Be careful, you always break the glasses," in reference to a butterfingers phase I had gone through years earlier. I vowed that I wouldn't be the same with my kids, that I would remember how much they were changing and how different they were at each age.

But now I wonder if you can do that -- will I look at K when he's all grown up and still see the newborn asleep in my lap, and the toddler lurching down the hall waving a yellow highlighter and chanting, "Ga-ga-ga," and the little boy he will grow up to be? How can I not?
