: SoapBox LawYosemite Winter
I took my wife to Yosemite for her birthday this weekend. Yosemite has been on my list of places I need to visit while living in the Bay Area, and I'm glad I did. It was gorgeous and gratefully my wife loved it. Here are just a few pictures from our trip.
Me at the base of Yosemite Falls, the highest water fall in North America. The Ahwahneechee people of Yosemite Valley called the waterfall "Cholock" and believed that the plunge pool at its base was inhabited by the spirits of several witches, called the Poloti. An Ahwaneechee folktale describes a woman going to fetch a pail of water from the pool, and drawing it out full of snakes. Later that night, after the woman had trespassed into their territory, the spirits caused the woman's house to be sucked into the pool by a powerful wind, taking the woman and her newborn baby with her.
This was the view from our hotel room window at the lovely, cozy and dare I say, perfect winter palace; the Tenaya Lodge. After trudging around in the snow, this lodge was a wonderful respite to the cold.

The lovely nature and hotel, coupled with an incoming storm was enough for us to stay an extra night. The storm dropped about two feet of snow and it took me a few minutes to dig our car out. I still think snow is magical, but I got a hint of how old it could get when I had to dig my car out. If I had to do that every day, I would be a little bitter. Incidentally, our car was money in the snow and I got quite adept at putting snow chains on the tires because the two chains we borrowed snapped.
If you're in the snow, you gotta make a snowman, right?
That's why I come up here: NATURE.
I know Cruiser would have dug the icy road conditions.
We couldn't hike Half Dome in the winter, but you're on notice, you rocky beast; I will hike you soon.
