A's Trade Harden

ADVERTISEMENTS
The Oakland A's traded Rich Harden, their best pitcher, to the Chicago Cubs yesterday. In return, they got 4 prospects (the most notable is Matt Murton, who shuttled back and forth between Triple-A and Chicago).

I always get a little upset when Beane trades our best or most promising players.

But usually he's right on. Not always, but the players he trades often flame out at their new locations. See Mark Mulder. Sometimes they even flame out and come back to the A's at much lower prices. See Keith Foulke. And Frank Thomas.

Now, that doesn't mean the players Beane gets in return don't flame out. But trading high-priced veterans about to flame out for young kids who might be successful is a net positive.

I just hope you got this one right Billy.
