: Peanut Butter BurritoTough Day, Again
By Andrea
One of the reasons I have been blogging less isn't because I'm busier (although I am) or because I'm worried about job confidentiality (I feel good about my ability to not spill case details), but because it's been a tough entry to this job and I don't want to be super-depressing three times a week. This job is hard, and so far I haven't had the big inspiring victory that makes it all worthwhile. And it's not obviously coming yet.
At the same time the first day of the Tournament of Champions is taping in Las Vegas, I got scheduled for a client's asylum hearing in court. Today I found out that I'm not going to get the one-week continuance I asked for. There is a lot of background drama I can't get into about the timeline the court has her on. Basically, I'm screwed, and I'm going to have to have my supervisor do the hearing instead of me.
I'm going to work my butt off, get all her application documentation done by Christmas Eve (a very unfortunate deadline), do all her hearing prep, and then hand her off with crazy apologies and a lot of angst. I both feel guilty about the weird timing and angry about the legal reasons that gave her the particular timeline she's on. I feel bad that I look like a terrible, shallow person jetting off to Vegas to watch a game show tape while this client has so much on the line; and at the same time, I've been looking forward to this trip for Dan and I since October 2007, while I just got the court date a couple weeks ago. There's no good way out of this. Bleh.
It's going to be okay, but it was a tough day. I'm ready for a win, here.
