: Fight The HypoTo Thank or Not to Thank
By Casebook Sherpa
There’s some disagreement out there as to whether you should send thank you notes following interviews for summer positions. And, if so, should they be hand-written or typed on resume paper.
What do you think?
I realize that in each context there are varying expectations on what you should do. Firms in the northeast, for instance, aren’t as wild about thank you notes. The southeast is a different story. Sending a thank you note simply strikes me as the right thing to do as a means of expressing appreciation for someone’s time, that could have otherwise been spent billing.
I’m a firm believer in the hand-written thank you note. A brief, personal note on a 4×6 card allows you to convey what you need to convey without veering into too much detail. Plus, handwriting a note demonstrates that you’ve at least taken the time to sit down and write it rather than making a change or two to a form letter on your computer.
So, what’s the verdict? Thank you or no thank you? Typed or handwritten?
