Skinny Baby

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

An update for those who follow for baby news: At 15 months, Becca is 31 inches tall and doesn't quite weigh 21 pounds. The pediatrician isn't worried about her, but did say she should gain weight and recommended we feed her more meat. Er. Dan reminded him we're vegetarians, and to his credit, he did not act weird like I have heard some doctors do and act like we are those crazy vegan parents who starved their baby on a diet of rice milk and leaves or something a while back. (A co-worker told me the first OB-GYN she went to while pregnant informed her she could not be vegetarian while pregnant because it was bad for the baby. She switched doctors.) He just told us to feed her an egg every day.

We're on it, but honestly, we were already feeding her yogurt, cheese, crackers, and beans every day, and she drinks plenty of whole milk out of her sippy cup. She's energetic and happy, and I can't force more food down her throat, so I'm trying not to get crazy about it. She loves fruits and vegetables (and the latter now comes with baby-fattening butter), and I love that about her, so I'm not eager to take the broccoli away from her. This is a weird problem to have.

Becca also still only has 8 teeth, although she seems to be getting along fine with them. She also says about 15 words: mommy, daddy, baby, doggie, monkey, book, eat, more, all-done, no, up, uh-oh, hi, and bye-bye. She toddles over holding the same 3 or 4 books all day long, and has learned how to back up and sit in our laps, which is pretty adorable. She's getting whinier by the day, but she also forgets why she was whining quickly, so we're still sane. She's a really fun baby, and when I was gone in New York this weekend I didn't actually think about all the mom duty I was getting out of - I just missed her terribly.

Happy in her chair
