Resistance is futile

I never got around to publishing it, but I had a post half-written entitled "Why I'm Not on F***book."

1L year I joined F***book because people in my section kept telling me about pictures they had posted there. I joined. I saw lots of pictures of drunk people. I got a zillion emails telling me that so-and-so wanted to be my friend and that I should join some group and that somebody had poked me.

Just the idea of getting a virtual poke brought out my inner grumpy old lady. Hey, you kids! Quit your poking!

I deactivated my account.

But then every single person I met, every group I joined, every class I took, every political candidate I supported was on F***book. And when I came home yesterday, I found JW looking at his profile.

JW. My grumpy old husband. Together we shake our canes when someone tries to send us a text message.

So I succumbed. And as annoyed as I was, I immediately felt the urge to start staking out my place in the social map. I stayed up past my bedtime asking people to be my friend, and paid for it this morning when K wailed at 5 a.m.

I feel so dirty.
