Post-Thanksgiving

ADVERTISEMENTS
Ate two rounds of turkey. #1 was at a family friend's house where "the kids," who are all now in their 30s and 40s, converge every year. I still remember a few years ago when one of us was pregnant, and then the following year when everyone was all excited that we had a baby at the party. This year it was utter chaos, with about eight kids running around. #2 was at home with the extended family. We all went around and said what we were thankful for. K was thankful for the many brightly colored Chinese-manufactured toy cars and trucks that he had received as gifts despite their clearly being labeled "NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3." Sure enough, a wheel fell off one and had to be confiscated before it was eaten, leading to tears on his part and an inability to explain on mine.

Among many other things, I was thankful (and felt a little guilty) that my parents cooked the entire dinner, did all the dishes despite my offers to help, AND babysat K all weekend while JW and I huddled over our laptops. I am feeling somewhat less stressed now that drafts of 2 out of 5 papers are complete. It's awfully nice to still be babied by your parents as you get older. I know at some point, we'll be the ones taking care of them.

All in all, a good weekend. I got to hang out with my brother and his family, see some high school friends, and play a little Napoleon, AND I still got tons of work done. Thank goodness for parents.

Also: I am a Cuddleslut.
