: Jolly LawgerSo Politikal! (Archive Post)
By Steve Pirates
One of the things that I?ve found I like about law school, and my school in particular, is the absence of political apathy. It has been a nice change of pace to actually have legitimate conversations with people regarding their preferences for the upcoming primaries and elections. Back in undergrad all political conversations took one of two forms. #1 ?Yeah, whatever, let?s go get some beers dudemanbro!!!? or #2 ?Candidate X of Party Y is teh bestorxz in teh world because of ideological reason Z with no room for debate or acknowledgment of flaws in said ideology or acceptance of the validity of alternative ideologies.?
That was pretty much it. You were either apathetic, an ultra-christian neocon, or an ?i love che? radical. I?m none of those things. In law school, it has been very refreshing to meet people who hold a wide array of opinions, but who are able and willing to actually engage in productive discourse. It is very nice to see people actually interested in learning about the merits of the other side.
Now, if only the rest of the nation could be more like law school.
