Playing Mommy

ADVERTISEMENTS
While straightening up the basement, I found an empty pocketbook that I meant to bring upstairs. K grabbed it from me, put it on his shoulder, and started walking around. Cute, I thought. Then he came over and proffered his face for a kiss, saying, "MMMWAH." Then he said, "Shoes!" and went over to the shoe rack. I figured it out when he came over to kiss me again, said, "Bye bye! Bye bye!" and headed for the door. He knows what Mommy's pocketbook means.

K has mostly left behind his "no" phase and now usually answers "Yeah!" to most questions, with the occasional "no" thrown in for variety. This makes for fun conversations where JW and I ask K a series of questions. "Did you read a book today?" "Yeah!" "Did you read about ankles and all about ants?" "Yeah!" "Did you read about anchors?" "No." "What about crocodile pants?" "Yeah!" Grandma, the former schoolteacher, tried to train him to say "Yes" instead of "Yeah" when she came to visit. But she gave up after realizing that particular bad habit comes from Mommy.

K has also taken to saying, "Yay! Yay!" and clapping wildly when I finish singing him a song, a habit I appreciate. I always wanted to be a singer. Now I can pretend I am, with my adoring audience of one.
