: Random Ramblings About Life and Law SchoolPartisan politics still suck
By Lindsay
I actually debated with one guy, a Republican, on a plane once. W had just signed off on a budget that included decreasing federal funding for plane repairs and maintenance. To prove the point that politics and politicians actually do affect our lives, I told him about the budget cut. Then I said "man, I hope we don't crash..."
I'm so evil. :)
Ok, I'm not evil. But after so many years of being a nurse and working in psych, I think I know how to get to the heart of something. And I somehow have a knack at getting people to see things in a different way. One of my proudest moments was during the 2000 campaign when Bush kept saying "look at my record in Texas!". Well, I did (which is why I could have told you even before he was "elected" that he was going to do the things he's done to this country). And, this guy I sort of knew was a born-again Christian, ex-military white guy born and raised in the deep south. A Republican, naturally. He was initially as for Bush as I was against him. Yet after several long, respectful discussions about the candidates, in the end he voted for Gore. Al Gore!
Anyway, I'm still getting mail from Mitt. I haven't been able to write that letter yet because in just a few short weeks I've been trying to study and take my first law school exams ever, renew my nursing license and car registration, get my car inspected, and do the whole Christmas thing, too. But maybe he'll lose in the primary and I'll never have to hear from him again? I have to admit, there are one or two Republican candidates that don't seem to suck.
By the way, I have now officially told people from both the John Edwards and Barack Obama campaigns that when you go to www.google.com and search for Mitt Romney sucks, you come up with my blog. Maybe I should tell that to Mitt Romney's people...
But regardless of how you feel, educate yourself. Look past the sound bites to what they've actually done. Question everything. There are always two sides to every coin. Look past the spin to the truth (it's usually somewhere in the middle). And then, and only then, vote. Just, please don't vote based on the spin or on how you think other people should live their lives.
