Up the Ladder

By shell

ADVERTISEMENTS

This is the beginning of the end of law school.  First, there are things to pay.

  1. $56 rental fee for cap and gown.
  2. $2500 for Bar/Bri balance.
  3. $899 for the 6-day PMBR course + materials.
  4. $25* for senior portrait.
  5. …and an unknown amount to pay for bar registration. (I have not had the guts to check the cost yet).

Then, there are things to do:

  1. Check diploma information.
  2. Register for the bar.
  3. Work on character & fitness questionnaires.
  4. Work out summer plans, including exercise schedule, studying schedule, and food shopping schedule.
  5. Contact parents about graduation ceremony. (I am leaning toward a small graduation ceremony).
Sure, the thought of graduating is exciting, but I certainly did not expect all these additional fees.  In fact, law school is more expensive than I thought.  I only planned for tuition, housing, textbooks, and certain living expenses (laptop, food, some personal items).

But I did not know, for example, that I had to take a $50** MPRE (Multi-State Professional Responsibility Exam).  I did not even know how much it costs to register for the bar exam.  I still do not know how much it would cost to register for the Continued Legal Education (CLE) courses.  I wish I had thought about all this before coming to law school.

It is only February but I am already broke.

*There are more high-end packages, but right now I can’t afford much.
**By the way, MPRE fee has gone up to $60.
