Headhunted

I got my first headhunter call today! I told the guy, "You know I'm a first-year, right?" It's nice to feel wanted, even though I'm not planning to go anywhere. (Plus, the firm he was calling about laid off half their first-year class a year ago! That's why they're low on junior associates.)

After that call, I remembered that another associate on my floor was gone. I talked to him last week and he said that Friday would be his last day. When you leave to go work for the government or in-house, the firm sends around an email saying, "We thank so-and-so for her contributions and wish her the best of luck," but when you lateral out they take you off the website and never speak of you again.
