Happy Hanukkah

Last month I told Dan that now that he has kids, this would be a good time to decide if he wants to teach them Jewish holiday traditions. He thought about this and said, "Yes." So we're officially a Christmas-Hanukkah family. I'm pleased, since I like thoughtful religious observances and Judaism is pretty lovely. I made a trek in the snow today to procure a simple menorah (we're inheriting a fancy family one, but it'll be more appropriate for a bigger house and older children), Dan put on a yarmulke I dug out of the sock drawer, we sang the prayers after practicing the tunes on the Internet, and we're off with the holiday season.
