ADVERTISEMENTS
My name is George M. Gilmer, Esq.

Hello, George. How are you?

I am an attorney operating a busy solo practice in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

You don't say. Nice going. I enjoyed clicking on that "Attorneys" link on your website only to find out that you're the only one there.

I have a high volume practice which focuses on Divorces, Bankruptcies, Civil Litigation, Family Law, Immigration and Real Estate. I have a great deal of work that needs to be done.

You don't have a great deal of varied sentence structure, but it's nice to see that you have a lot of work going. Obviously you want to pay someone to help you, right? I mean, you're making $399 for uncontested divorces and some bankruptcy actions. $999 for a green card. Although these offers expired on March 31, 2008, so you might be making even more now!

The description of work that needs to be performed is:

1. Divorce, Bankruptcy and Immigration petition drafting.
2. Preparation of Civil Summons and Complaints.
3. Motion practice in all legal areas.
4. Discovery.
5. Simple research.
6. Filing (court filing and office filing).
7. General letter writing and legal document preparation.

OK, that's a decent amount of work. Sounds like you're looking for an attorney, paralegal and a legal secretary all rolled into one. Coupled with a terrific perk of a free Westlaw/Lexis-Nexis password. And the hourly wage is?

This is a non-paying position. I prefer an intern willing to work a minimum of ten hours per week. This can lead to a full time position.

Um, will the full-time position be PAID? And how dare you talk about how great your practice is going and then not even pony up $10 an hour for a law intern? Why is slave labor acceptable if students are doing it? And you're NOT a pro bono practice, judging by your rates.

I am looking for interns that can work either July or August. This will be a great learning experience and there is never a shortage of work.

Oh good. Because I love heaps and loads of work that I'm not being paid to do!

I require someone that learns quickly and that is not intimidated by being ?thrown into the fire.? My interns assume a great deal of responsibility.

Also, great. Basically, you don't want to train your unpaid intern and want carte blanche to treat them however you wish? Throw them "into the fire", you say? Yummy. I'm sure they do assume a great deal of responsibility because you don't want to hire an associate to basically do all of your work. But then you'd have to pay the going rate; what's that, $30,000 these days?

If you have any questions, please email me at georgethelawyer@aol.com with a resume. Thank you!!

Sincerely yours,

George M. Gilmer, Esq.

Go ahead, law students. Sounds like a good gig!
