pAdd me to the list of people feeling bent out of shape about the Caroline Kennedy coronation, I mean, possible appointment to the Senate. I#39;m one of the many who felt inspired and refreshed by Obama#39;s election and what it represented for those of us who are kind of brownish and/or have zero rich, famous relations to invest us with the aura of political glamour. /ppI can kind of handle Beau Biden and John Salazar maybe taking their relations#39; seats, due to their actual time in government work. Caroline Kennedy is making me feel embarassed. I feel like Democrats are just admitting that fame and the ability to raise tons of dough is all that matters. It isn#39;t to me./ppAnd then she says stuff a href=http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081218/ap_on_el_se/ny_senate_seatlike this/a to the press: quot;I come at this as a mother, as a lawyer, as an author, as an education advocate and from a family that really has spent generations in public service.quot; I mean, it sounds lovely. The press seems to not mind that she has never practiced law (as far as I can find), so I#39;m not sure how she is coming at this quot;as a lawyer, quot; but the thing I like best about that sentence is that it also describes ME. And probably a lot of a href=http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/17/for-senate-caroline-or-carolyn/other people/a who have held full time jobs in this decade (which CK has not.) Bleh./ppI am STILL very sick and crabby, and very close to losing my voice. I guess the crabby part was obvious./pFull post as published by Peanut Butter Burrito on December 18, 2008 (boomark / email).
