20 Minutes

By Casebook Sherpa

ADVERTISEMENTS

When you’re trying to explain who you are why you’re the best candidate out there, 20 minutes isn’t much time.

One-third of an hour. 1,200 seconds.

Basic introductions. Three questions to you. Two questions for your interviewer. Some dialogue. Hopefully a laugh or two and a pithy response here and there. A word about your article submission to the law journal and a quick story about your Con Law professor.

And you’re done.

Out the door. On your way back into the sauna.

There it is. Your screener interview for a summer position at a law firm.

It’s easy to rush through answers. To make the dialogue all about you. To neglect listening.

There’s a premium on time. And words. And energy.

Eye contact. Posture. Good questions. Listening. All things you need to bring.

Basically – you need your A-Game.

Who knows if I do it well. I’m not good with the strong sell. But I’m good with an elevator speech. And I have a decent resume.

So I guess we’ll see.
