Legal news around the circuit

From the Courier Journal:

Here are the candidates in selected races in Tuesday's primary election in which The Courier-Journal has made endorsements. All of the Jefferson County judges up for election this year outscored their challengers in a recent Louisville Bar Association poll. Fifteen years after a national study claimed Jefferson District Court was plagued by lazy judges who were accountable to nobody, dumped work on their colleagues and treated litigants like cattle, a makeover may finally be nearing.

A Jefferson Circuit judge told a former juror in a closed hearing Monday that she did not have enough evidence to hold the woman in contempt for allegedly watching part of a television show about a murder case she heard last month.

Two uninsured patients have sued the Indianapolis-based Clarian Health hospital system, saying it charges too much for services not covered by health insurance.

Three death row prisoners are challenging Kentucky's revised protocol for lethal injections, which took effect Friday, claiming it violates the law in part by failing to spell out the volume and concentration of the lethal chemicals.

The wrongful-death lawsuit against former Pleasure Ridge Park football head coach Jason Stinson and five assistant coaches scheduled for June 7 is expected to be delayed by a year or more after defense attorneys filed an appeal of a judge's ruling not to dismiss the case.

A felon charged with failing to deliver $125,000 in 2008 Ryder Cup tickets that he was paid for has been linked to an alleged scheme to rip off a Kentucky Derby ticket broker who says he was promised tickets by assistant University of Louisville men's basketball coach Steve Masiello.

A Franklin Circuit Court judge has ruled that records on a baby who died after drinking drain cleaner should be open to the public.

Judge Philip Shepherd said there is no reason why records on 20-month-old Kayden Daniels, who died May 30 at an alleged methamphetamine lab, should not be released. The baby's father, Bryan Daniels, has been charged with murder and making meth. Both the child and his 14-year-old mother, Alisha Branham, had been placed in the state foster-care program for abused and neglected children.

The following excerpts are taken from the complaint filed by U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Mongiardo against candidate and Attorney General Jack Conway.   The complaint was filed with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission on May 4, 2010.
